THIS "crystallized the essence of the band" for me. Staggering diversity, innumerable musical genres in one album.
Easily their most underrated. Zeppelin at their powerful, driving, grinding best.
More trademark diversity. "Dancing Days" always conjures images of the first hint of summer.
Many a high school-era evening spent drinking to Side One of this. A far more energized version of "Rock & Roll".
Acoustic brilliance tempered by "Immigrant Song" and "Out on the Tiles". I think Stone Temple Pilots must have been listening to "Immigrant" while recording "Vaseline".
Quite underrated. Jonesy shines here. "Hot Dog" is sheer rollick.
"Four Sticks"...brilliant. And of course, one of my favorites, "The Battle of Evermore", my fateful introduction to the dazzling Sandy Denny.
Heavy, really guttural. One of my favorite bass displays by Jones.
The first Zeppelin album I ever bought. Well, an 8-track actually.
Great version of "I Can't Quit You Baby". "We're Gonna Groove" and "Poor Tom" are gems. |
